Having difficulty purchasing life insurance with diabetes type 1?
Or
Have you already been turndown for life insurance coverage?

It’s not that difficult! We have help many individuals secure life insurance with diabetes type 1 and type 2. We know which companies have the niche in the market for diabetic conditions and have favorable rates.

What is Diabetes Type 1?

Diabetes Type 1 is also referred as juvenile diabetes. It’s when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin causing us to manually inject insulin into our body by either using a pump or injection. The onset age for Type 1 diabetics typically occurs before age 30. Also, only 5% of diabetics are classified as type 1 with this disease.

Here are some key factors that will affect your life insurance rates:
1) How long have you been a type 1 diabetic? What was your age of onset?
2) What is your height and weight?
3) What type insulin are you taking? Humalog, Lantus, Levemir, Novolog?
4) How many units are you taking per day?
5) What are your A1C levels? (past and current are important)
6) Any other medications?
7) Are you a smoker?
8) Any complications with your diabetes? (vision, kidney, heart, skin or nerve issues)
9) Other health issues?

CONTROL & COMPLIANCE!

It’s all about YOUR control and YOUR compliance when trying to secure the best rate possible for your life insurance coverage!

Control- Do you have your diabetes under control? Are you regularly checking your blood sugar? How high is your A1C score?
A1C Score is blood test that measures your blood sugar levels over a period of 3 months. If your score is less than 7 it is considered to be excellent. If your score is less than an 8 it is considered to be good.

Compliance- Do you follow your physician’s instructions? Are you taking your medications as prescribed? Are you eating and exercising? Are you maintaining a healthy weight?

It’s also important to have your medical records updated and well documented. If not, your application can be looked at unfavorably therefore causing a negative outcome in either a high rating for your coverage, a postponement or even a decline.

What kind of ratings can I expect from an insurance company?

As a type 1 diabetic, the underwriting with this condition may significantly vary per insurance company and so does each person’s diabetic condition.

It’s best to let us shop the rates for you since we represent many insurance companies and then provide you with realistic rates for your coverage. We will recommend the most competitive carrier who is going to look at your specific history most favorably.

Case Study- Type 1

Peter applied for 500k for 30 year term policy this year at his age of 33. He is a type 1 diabetic that was taking 60 units of insulin. He was diagnosed at the age of 27 with no complications. He visits his physician every 3 months to check his A1C which was a 6.2. We were able to secure his coverage at a substandard table 4 rating, where more insurance companies wouldn’t even offer him coverage due to his young onset age.
